This lot features two German child dolls. The first is a Heinrich Handwerck socket head doll, mold number 99. The bisque head is mounted on a ball-jointed composition and wood body. It features weighted blue glass sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, feathered brows, and an open mouth with four inset upper teeth. The back of the head is incised 11 1/2, 99, DEP, Germany, HANDWERCK, 3. The doll includes a detached blonde curly mohair wig, a two-piece red silk-type dress with black velvet ribbon trim, and a white cotton petticoat with lace trim. The second doll is an Edmund Ulrich Steiner Majestic socket head doll manufactured for importer George Borgfeldt. The bisque head is mounted on a ball-jointed composition and wood body. It features weighted brown glass sleep eyes and an open mouth with inset teeth. The back of the head is incised MAJESTIC, 8, Germany, Regd. The doll is fitted with a modern replacement brown curly wig. Clothing includes a red cotton dress with white trim, a lace-trimmed bolero jacket, white cotton chemise, pantaloons, and black leather lace-up boots. 20 inches and 21 inches. These dolls have expected wear due to their age. The composition bodies show surface crazing and areas of peeling to the lacquer finish. Bisque heads appear sound with minor surface grime. The Handwerck wig is detached. The Majestic eye mechanism is slipped and the neck joint features a stabilizer repair. A localized impact crack is noted to the Majestic lower torso.
