A German antique doll by Simon & Halbig, mold number 1079, featuring a bisque porcelain socket head and a fully jointed composition and wood body. The head is detailed with blue glass sleep eyes, painted multi-stroke eyebrows, upper and lower eyelashes, and a shaded open mouth with four inset upper teeth. The auburn reddish-brown wig is styled in long ringlets. The back of the head is incised with 1079, DEP, GERMANY, and the size mark 8. The doll is dressed in a multi-piece sailor-themed ensemble consisting of a blue-grey dress with a cream silk bow and horizontal bands, a cream-colored long-sleeve blouse, a white cotton petticoat with lace trim, cream knit socks, and light blue slip-on shoes with ribbon bows and metallic ornaments. 21 inches. This doll shows expected wear consistent with its age. The bisque head is in excellent condition. The composition body exhibits anticipated age-related yellowing to the finish and expected minor surface scuffs or crazing. The sleep eye mechanism is functional. The clothing is well-preserved with light age-toning and minor fraying.
