1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar, struck at the San Francisco Mint. This is an early issue from the first year of the Morgan Dollar series and a popular date among collectors of classic U.S. silver dollars. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Morgan Dollar was designed by George T. Morgan and was first introduced in 1878. The obverse features Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, while the reverse depicts an eagle with outstretched wings holding arrows and an olive branch. The 1878-S had a mintage of 9,774,000 coins. It was struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs 26.73 grams, and contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. The “S” mint mark identifies it as a San Francisco Mint issue.
