1928-S Peace Silver Dollar, struck at the San Francisco Mint. This is a notably scarce issue from the Peace Dollar series and the final year of regular Peace Dollar production before the series was temporarily discontinued. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Peace Dollar was designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci to commemorate peace following World War I. The obverse features Liberty wearing a radiate crown, while the reverse depicts an eagle perched on a mountain with an olive branch and the word “PEACE” below. The series was produced from 1921 through 1935. The 1928-S had a relatively low mintage of only 1,632,000 coins, making it one of the lower-mintage Peace Dollar issues. It is particularly known as a condition rarity, with sharply struck examples in high Mint State grades being especially scarce. PCGS notes that the issue is often lightly struck, particularly on the reverse, and that MS65 examples are rare.
