1927-D Peace Silver Dollar, struck at the Denver Mint. This is a notably scarce issue from the Peace Dollar series and an important date for collectors of early U.S. silver dollars. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Peace Dollar was designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci to commemorate the peace following World War I. The obverse features Liberty wearing a radiate crown, while the reverse depicts an eagle perched on a mountain with an olive branch and the word “PEACE” below. The series was produced from 1921 through 1935. The 1927-D had a mintage of only 1,268,900 coins, making it one of the scarcer Peace Dollar issues. PCGS estimates significantly fewer examples survive in high grades, with MS65 particularly scarce and MS66 extremely rare. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs 26.73 grams, and contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. The “D” mint mark identifies it as a Denver Mint issue. The 1927-D is also known for the VAM-2 Doubled Motto variety, which is listed among the recognized varieties for this date.
