Artist-signed oil on canvas floral still life, signed “Powell” in red at the lower right, depicting an exuberant garden bouquet arranged in a dark green ceramic vase accented with blue circular motifs. The composition is densely filled with lilies, allium-like purple blossoms, pansies, daisies and other mixed flowers rendered with lively, painterly brushwork, set against a softly abstracted garden-like background of pale greens, pinks, lavender and blue. The loose handling of the background contrasts attractively with the more defined flowers and foliage, giving the work a bright, decorative Impressionist character. Presented in a substantial ornate gilt-finished frame with raised rococo-style foliate and scroll decoration. The painting appears generally well preserved with minor surface dust and expected age-related wear, while the frame shows scattered rubbing, small losses and wear to the gilt finish consistent with handling and display. Measures 29"H 23"W and 38"H x 32"W including frame.
