19th Century Landscape with Cattle Oil on Canvas

A finely rendered 19th-century pastoral oil on canvas depicting cattle gathered in and around a tranquil woodland stream beneath a dramatic, cloud-filled sky. A large brown-and-white cow stands prominently in the shallow water at right, its legs and body softly reflected across the glassy surface, while several additional cattle congregate along the opposite bank and within the stream beyond. Towering mature trees frame the composition with dense foliage and twisting branches, opening toward a luminous distant meadow and creating an atmospheric contrast between the shadowed woodland and bright countryside beyond. No legible artist signature is apparent from the photographs. Presented in a substantial natural-finished wood frame with gilt inner liner. The painting shows age-related surface grime, scattered craquelure, minor abrasions and areas of discoloration consistent with age, while the frame exhibits scattered scratches, small losses and general handling wear; overall presenting attractively with restoration or cleaning potentially enhancing the surface.
