Antique heavy brass mortar and pestle, likely 19th to early 20th century, featuring a deep cylindrical mortar with a broadly flared rolled rim, incised concentric bands, and distinctive opposing rectangular openwork handles. The substantial double-ended pestle has gently flared striking ends and simple turned band decoration at the center, giving the set a restrained utilitarian character associated with traditional apothecary, kitchen, or workshop grinding vessels. The brass has developed an attractive mellow aged surface with scattered oxidation, darkened spotting, scratches, rubbing, and general wear from prolonged use, while the underside shows heavier oxidation and residue consistent with age. The set appears complete and structurally sound from the photographs. Comparable 19th-century brass mortar-and-pestle examples continue to appear at auction, supporting its appeal as both a functional antique and decorative object. Mortor measures 4.25"H x 5"W x 5.5"D and pestle measures 8.25"long.
