A decorative pair of late 19th- to early 20th-century ceramic biscuit jars, each of rounded barrel form and fitted with silverplate collars, removable domed lids, and swing handles. The cobalt-blue jar is lavishly decorated in gilt with chinoiserie landscapes of pagodas, boats, trees, and waterside architecture, while the companion displays an Imari-inspired arrangement of iron-red, cobalt-blue, floral, foliate, and geometric motifs. The underside of the cobalt jar bears an impressed or printed Wedgwood urn mark, while the companion has an indistinct underglaze-blue maker’s mark surrounded by extensive glaze crazing. Both jars exhibit substantial tarnish, oxidation, spotting, scratching, and plating wear to the metal fittings, together with rubbing and losses to the gilded and painted decoration, scattered surface wear, crazing, and age-related discoloration; no major structural porcelain losses are evident from the supplied photographs. Wedgwood and comparable ceramic biscuit barrels with silverplate fittings were popular decorative wares during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Measures 6.5"H x 5"W and 6.25"H x 5.5"W.
