One provincial-style writing desk of Italian origin, constructed from a mid-toned hardwood, likely fruitwood or light mahogany. The rectangular top is formed from multiple boards and sits above a three-drawer frieze. The central drawer is wider and features a decorative stamped brass escutcheon plate with an integral keyhole, while the two flanking drawers are fitted with simple circular brass pull knobs. The piece is supported by four square-section tapered legs. The drawers exhibit simple construction with visible nail fixings on the sides and visible joinery. The timber displays a warm finish throughout. Dimensions (measured against a ruler): W 110.5 cm x D 58.5 cm x H 80 cm. Condition: The desk is in used condition with visible signs of age and wear. The top surface shows significant scratching, surface abrasions, and areas of finish loss, including some faint ring marks. The legs exhibit notable finish loss and pale discolouration at the base, consistent with water exposure or contact with floor-cleaning agents. The drawer joints show some gapping and historic repairs with visible nails. No key is present for the lock.
