A 19th-century Italian Louis Philippe style mahogany console table, also known as a pier table, accompanied by a matching dressing mirror. The table features a shaped white marble top with a serpentine front edge, resting upon a mahogany frame. The frieze contains a single drawer with book-matched flame mahogany veneers and a central brass lock plate. Internally, the drawer is divided into several compartments and displays hand-cut dovetail joinery. The base is supported by four bold cabriole legs, each decorated with foliate-carved knees and terminating in scrolled feet. These legs are connected by a deeply shaped and carved X-stretcher. The separate mirror is housed within a heavily carved mahogany frame, featuring an ornate acanthus leaf and shell-form cresting, flanked by scrolling foliate motifs and C-scrolls. Dimensions measured against a tape measure: Width of marble top: approx. 37 inches Height of table to marble top: approx. 32 inches Height of mirror: approx. 32 inches. Condition: The piece is in aged, used condition. The mahogany woodwork shows visible wear, scuffing, and minor scratches throughout, particularly to the legs and stretcher. There are minor losses to the veneers and visible timber movement on the drawer sides. The white marble top exhibits surface staining, minor scratches, and small chips or nibbles to the edges consistent with age. The mirror glass remains in fair condition with minor desilvering and foxing commensurate with its age; the mirror is currently detached from its supporting base. The drawer retains its original-style lock and key.
