This late 20th-century Neoclassical-style open armchair by Councill Craftsmen features a distinctive large-scale carved shell-motif back with radiating beaded ribs and a central acanthus leaf base. The wood frame is finished in adistressed off-white paint with intentional aged detailing. The chair rests on fluted, square-tapered legs topped by carved floral medallions at the seat rail joinery. The serpentine arms terminate in scroll handrests. The padded seat isupholstered in a striped fabric featuring shades of green, cream, and mauve. A woven fabric label on the underside displays a stylized scroll C logo and the name Councill. A stapled paper law tag confirms the manufacturer as CouncillCraftsmen, Inc. of Denton, North Carolina, and lists the cushion materials as 80 percent urethane foam and 20 percent polyester fiber. 38 inches tall by 24 inches wide by 27 inches deep.This armchair is in very nice condition and displays expected light wear to the painted finish consistent with age.
