Alva Gusta (A.G.) Meaders (1923–1994) was a highly accomplished, traditional southern folk artist and member of the celebrated Meaders pottery family from White County, Georgia. Though he spent his youth assisting at his father Cleater’s and brother’s pottery shops, he did not begin throwing his own pottery full-time until after his retirement in 1987. Despite a brief production career spanning only from 1987 to 1993, his highly prized stoneware pieces—particularly his face jugs—are deeply coveted by collectors due to their extreme scarcity.
