Pair of original framed landscape paintings by Carol Swinney and Opal Brooten, representing two accomplished artists associated with the American West and Pacific Northwest. The first work is "Creek Reflections," a 1999 oil on canvas by Wyoming artist Carol Swinney. The painting depicts a rocky stream winding through the wooded landscape of Sabino Canyon and is rendered with pronounced palette-knife work, layered impasto, and reflected greens, blues, and earth tones. It is signed and dated "Swinney '99," with the title, location, medium, date, and artist's name inscribed on the reverse. Swinney is known for painting western landscapes on location and has spent much of her life on her family's Wyoming cattle ranch. She studied art at the University of Wyoming, became a signature member of Oil Painters of America, and was a founding member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters Association. The second work is an original watercolor on paper by Opal Brooten, depicting a mountain rising behind a small waterfront settlement with buildings extending over the water. The watercolor is signed "Opal Brooten" in the lower-left corner and is presented under glass with layered green matting. The accompanying artist profile identifies Brooten as a Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, painter, gallery operator, and art instructor who worked in watercolor, oil, acrylic, and other media. Opal and Lloyd Brooten are recognized among the original founders of Coeur d'Alene's Art on the Green, an arts festival established in 1968. Both works retain an appealing presentation with light wear to the frames consistent with age and display. Neither artwork has been examined outside its frame. Approx. framed dimensions are 24.5" W 20.5" H for the Swinney oil and 22.5" W 19" H for the Brooten watercolor.
