Original framed sculptural study by noted Wyoming artist Rupert Conrad (1914-1978). The expressive mixed-media drawing depicts a stylized standing figure with bold black linework and red, gray, and white washes. Signed "Conrad" in the lower right. The reverse contains exceptional provenance, including handwritten notes identifying the work as "Study for Sculpture by Rupert Conrad, 1974-1978," along with references to the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution and the University of Wyoming Art Museum. An additional typed note states: "Sculptural Study - The proposed study could be cast in bronze or may be carved in wood with polychromatic surface... Suggested decor for library." Also included on the reverse is an original sales invoice made out to Lynn Lockhart, showing a purchase price of $275.00 plus tax, for a total of $286.00, further supporting the artwork's history and provenance. Rupert Conrad was one of Wyoming's best-known modern artists and sculptors, recognized for his abstract figurative works and numerous public commissions throughout the Rocky Mountain region. This study offers collectors an uncommon opportunity to acquire a preparatory concept related to his sculptural work. Approx. framed size: 18.5" x 22". Frame displays light wear consistent with age. A desirable piece for collectors of Wyoming art, mid-century modern works, and Rupert Conrad material.
