NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > Despite condition issues, note in the condition report below, a substantial vintage wingback lounge chair upholstered in a dusty rose-pink tonal damask, woven with a large-scale pattern of stylized flowers, scrolling leaves and paisley-like forms. The raised, darker pink design creates a richly textured appearance across the chair’s tall channel-tufted back, shaped wings, rolled padded arms, loose box seat cushion, sides and fully upholstered reverse. The broad back flares gently toward the crest, creating an enveloping traditional fireside-chair form. The exposed dark-finished wood base is shaped in the Queen Anne manner, with a curved front rail and cabriole front legs terminating in pad feet, accented by carved scroll details at the knees. The combination of the softly colored floral damask, tall wingback profile and Queen Anne-style base gives the chair a distinctly formal mid-century traditional presentation. A sewn manufacturer’s label beneath the chair reads GILLIAM ~ DISTINCTIVE FURNITURE ~ STATESVILLE, N.C. Gilliam Furniture was a Statesville, North Carolina manufacturer specializing in upholstered seating, including sofas and traditional occasional chairs, within one of the state’s important furniture-producing regions. Based on the styling and label, the chair likely dates to the mid-20th century. CONDITION REPORT > The chair remains substantial and appears structurally serviceable; however, the upholstery is notably worn and is a candidate for professional replacement. The dusty rose damask displays fading, uneven coloration, soiling, staining, surface abrasion, weakened and pulled seams, scattered small tears and areas of fraying. The lower front edge is split and heavily frayed above the exposed wood rail, with additional wear along the arm fronts, crest and other high-contact areas. The seat cushion shows compression and wear, and the upholstery has a generally tired presentation throughout. Best suited for reupholstery, restoration or creative redesign.
