AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A vintage Camp-Ways brand external-frame hiking backpack dating to the 1970s, constructed with a green heavy-duty nylon pack secured to an aircraft-grade tubular aluminum frame. The large-capacity rucksack includes a broad top flap, multiple zippered and gathered storage compartments, leather lashing tabs, adjustable shoulder straps, padded hip belt and a ventilated mesh back panel that helps hold the pack away from the wearer. The front flap bears the original CAMP-WAYS label and a colorful BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA ~ 50 MILER ~ AFOOT AFLOAT AWARD patch, adding a strong element of Scouting history and period outdoor character. The rigid external frame was designed to stabilize substantial trail loads and transfer much of the weight toward the hips. Some outdoorsmen remove the nylon pack entirely and use the exposed aluminum frame as a rugged load-hauling platform for firewood, trail tools, hunting gear, meat, or other bulky backcountry cargo. CONDITION REPORT > Notable are some short tears from carrying heavy loads perhaps, likely repairable with minimal effort. Otherwise,field-used vintage condition perhaps with a degree of fading, discoloration, dust, stains, scuffs and general wear to the nylon, leather tabs, straps and padded components. The aluminum frame appears straight and structurally sound, with the shoulder straps, waist belt and mesh back support remaining attached. Zippers are tight, but funcitonal.
