NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > An older wooden child’s rocking chair standing approximately 26" tall to the shaped crest rail, measuring 12" wide, with curved rockers measuring approximately 21" long. The chair is finished in black enamel and constructed with a solid shaped seat, turned front legs and back posts, five slender vertical back spindles, straight arms with rounded hand rests, box stretchers, and shaped wood runners. The chair remains solid. The broad shaped crest rail above the spindles retains applied transfer decoration presenting a nostalgic nursery scene. The imagery includes a girl skipping rope, a boy rolling a barrel hoop, a lamb, squirrel, birds, dog, cat, and flowering tree. These transfer or decal decorations were frequently used on commercially produced children’s furniture during the mid 20th century, allowing detailed storybook scenes to be applied without hand painting. A comparable child’s rocker with original period decal decoration is identified as dating from the 1950s, though no exact maker match has been located for this example. The small proportions and traditional spindle back form reflect adult Windsor and cottage rocking chairs reduced for a young child. Suitable for nursery display, child seating, dolls, teddy bears, vintage toy collections, or country and cottage interiors. CONDITION REPORT > Remains solid, with extensive age and use related wear including scratches, scuffs, abrasions, edge wear, and scattered losses to the black enamel finish. The applied nursery scene across the crest rail displays substantial fading, rubbing, cracking, and partial loss, though the principal figures and animals remain recognizable.
