NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > A single, vintage bentwood cafe bistro or side chair measuring 35" tall at the back with a 16" diameter round seat. The steam bent frame features a graceful double loop back, continuous curved rear supports, gently flared legs and a circular stretcher joining the base. The dark stained wood contrasts with a naturally toned woven cane seat, creating the familiar café chair appearance associated with Thonet and later bentwood furniture manufacturers. Lightweight construction, flowing curves and compact proportions make the chair suitable for dining, occasional seating, a writing desk or decorative placement within Traditional, European Country, Cottagecore and eclectic interiors. Michael Thonet developed commercially successful steam bent furniture during the 19th century, allowing solid wood components to be curved into strong, economical forms suitable for series production. Thonet’s celebrated café chairs became among the most widely recognized furniture designs of the modern era and inspired generations of comparable bentwood seating throughout Europe and beyond.
