A mid-century floral still life oil painting on board by Rose Saxaphire, depicting a bouquet of purple and white lilacs arranged in a twin-handled orange ceramic vase. The work is executed in an expressive style with thick impasto brushwork to the floral blossoms, set against a dark background with vertical texture. A single sprig of lilac rests on the foreground surface. Signed and dated Rose 69 in the lower right. The reverse features an original gummed paper exhibition label from the Calgary Sketch Club, identifying the artist as Mrs. Rose Saxaphire and the subject as Lilacs, with a Spring exhibition date of 26 March 1970. Dimensions: approx. H 40.6 cm x W 30.5 cm (Measured against a visible tape measure). Condition: Minor areas of paint loss and rubbing are visible at the outer edges of the board. A small white surface mark is present in the upper left background. Light surface dirt throughout. The work remains unframed.
