A comprehensive part-dinner and tea service produced by W.H. Grindley & Co Ltd of Tunstall, Staffordshire. The service is executed on the Royal Petal earthenware body in the Marlborough shape, featuring a cream-coloured ground and scalloped rims. The Rosalind pattern consists of transfer-printed multi-coloured floral sprays depicting roses, tulips, and pansies in shades of pink, yellow, blue, and purple with green foliage. The collection includes a large twin-handled lidded tureen topped with a rosebud finial, an oval open serving bowl, an oval serving dish, gravy boats with associated underplates, egg cups, and a set of dinner plates, salad plates, and side plates. The tea service components comprise an assortment of teacups and saucers. Handles and finials are finished with hand-painted green and red linear accents. The underside of the pieces bears a green transfer-printed backstamp featuring the word MARLBOROUGH in an arc above a crown and a shield containing a three-masted sailing ship, with ROYAL PETAL on a ribbon below. The mark further includes GRINDLEY, ENGLAND, and the pattern name ROSALIND in quotation marks, with PERMANENT COLOURS in a rectangular border at the base. Condition: The service shows signs of age and regular domestic use. There is significant and widespread crazing to the glaze on multiple pieces, most notably the plates, with some instances of associated staining and discolouration to the earthenware body. The set remains free of major chips or visible restorations.
