An early production East German M56 steel combat helmet issued to the National People’s Army (NVA). Constructed from stamped steel in a sloped, high-domed profile derived from a 1944 German prototype, the shell features an olive drab painted exterior displaying surface scratches, scuffs, and visible field wear. The interior houses an early-style leather liner stamped size 56, showing sweat staining, discoloration, and wear. A three-point adjustable leather chinstrap harness remains attached to the interior frame with metal rivets and fittings. OT
