This Cold War-era East German M56 steel helmet was issued to the National People’s Army (NVA). Constructed from stamped steel in a high-domed, sloped profile derived from a 1944 German combat helmet prototype, it is finished in dark olive drab paint. The exterior shows moderate surface scratches, scuffs, and finish wear from field service. Inside, the helmet retains a adjustable brown leather liner system, a Y-strap harness with metal buckles, and a plastic central spider suspension unit. The interior foam padding displays yellowing and light degradation consistent with age. OT
