Distinctive for its flared brim and deep shell profile, this original East German M56/76 steel helmet is finished in standard olive drab. The helmet includes its late-model liner featuring foam padding and a three-point leather retention strap, characteristic of the National People's Army design improvements from the mid-Cold War era. The liner shows notable yellowing and crumbling of the foam. Exterior surfaces display moderate scratching and scuffing consistent with post-war use or storage. Based on German WWII ballistic research, this model served as the standard combat helmet for East German forces throughout the Cold War. OT
