This helmet features the characteristic flared steel shell in olive drab, consistent with the East German M56/76 model. It is equipped with the original leather liner and three-point chin strap system, which reflect the ergonomic improvements adapted by the East German National People’s Army (NVA) following post-WWII influences. The exterior shows moderate field wear, including scratches and some foam degradation visible on the liner, typical of period use. Inspired by late-WWII German experimental helmet developments, the M56/76 represents East Germany’s efforts in the late 1940s through the Cold War to modernize protective military headgear. OT
