This nine-inch antique German bisque doll was manufactured by Theodor Recknagel in Alexandrienthal, Thuringia, between 1910 and 1920. The softly tinted bisque socket head features blue glass sleep eyes, now fixed, painted multi-stroke eyebrows, fine eyelashes, and an open mouth with tiny molded upper teeth. The back of the neck is incised with mold number 1914, DEP, and R // A. Most often for export in French markets. The head has a restorative addition of a mohair wig and connects to a five-piece jointed composition body displaying notable surface wear, paint flaking, discoloration, and textured finish, typical for budget-friendly export dolls of the period. Limbs have painted black boots with brown soles and button detailing. Facial bisque presents well-preserved.
