The figure is depicted in a seated position on a separate four-legged stool with a curved seat. The oversized head features a blackened coiffure incised with a chevron pattern. The face is inset with cowrie shells for eyes and decorated with black pigment markings on the cheeks and forehead. The elongated neck is carved with horizontal ridges and wears multiple strands of white glass seed beads. The torso features prominent breasts and a distended abdomen. The arms are attached at the shoulder with metal pins or small nails. Significant portions of the figure are covered in a weathered white kaolin pigment wash.Height: 13 inches.The figure and stool exhibit age-related wear including scattered cracks to the wood on the body and base. There is substantial flaking and loss of the white kaolin wash. An old repair is visible on the right side of the head and at the shoulder joints. The stool shows edge wear and some splintering.
