Title: Water Lily Pond with Weeping Willows and Distant Mountain Landscape Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 28 x 29 inches (71.1 x 73.7 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition, with vibrant coloration, expressive textured brushwork, and clearly defined landscape elements. The painted surface displays variations in pigment application and directional brushstrokes, particularly throughout the water, foliage, and distant landscape. Minor surface irregularities and age-related imperfections may be present. Presented in an ornate gold-toned frame with elaborate floral and geometric detailing, showing minor signs of surface wear. The reverse displays an aged canvas support with areas of discoloration and scattered handling marks, secured to a wooden stretcher with visible fastening elements. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: The work was purchased in 2013 by a private collector in the United States. It was lent to a group exhibition in 2019 and sold afterward through a gallery to a European private collector in 2020. Visual Description: A richly colored landscape depicts a tranquil water lily pond surrounded by dense vegetation, cascading willow branches, and a distant mountainous countryside. The foreground is dominated by reflective water rendered through layered brushstrokes of emerald green, turquoise, cobalt blue, olive, and golden yellow. Numerous rounded lily pads float across the pond, their overlapping surfaces articulated in shades of green and blue, while delicate pink and white blossoms introduce subtle accents of color. Along the left side, a dense curtain of weeping willow foliage descends toward the water, composed of elongated vertical strokes in vivid greens, yellow, and turquoise. The hanging branches contrast with the horizontal movement of the water, establishing a sense of enclosure around the pond. Reflections of the surrounding vegetation appear as fragmented passages of green, gold, and blue across the surface. In the upper right, the landscape opens toward gently sloping countryside with a winding earthen path, scattered trees, flowering vegetation, and cultivated fields. A distant mountain rises beneath a softly illuminated sky of pale yellow, lavender, pink, and blue. The contrast between the intimate aquatic foreground and expansive background creates spatial depth while maintaining an emphasis on color and texture. The lower left bears a painted inscription reading “Claude Monet.” The expressive brushwork, luminous color relationships, fragmented reflections, and atmospheric transitions evoke the visual language of Impressionism, particularly its exploration of water, vegetation, and natural light. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art. For additional infor
