Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: The work was acquired in 2007 by a private European collector. It was lent to an institutional exhibition in 2014 and returned afterward. It was sold privately in 2021 to another private collection in Europe. Visual Description: A striking modernist portrait depicts a bearded male figure with an elaborate arrangement of tightly curled hair, exaggerated facial features, and a vivid orange-red garment. The composition is dominated by the sitter's large, expressive eyes, framed by heavy black eyebrows and dramatically elongated eyelashes. His face is rendered through broad passages of pale yellow, cream, soft blue, peach, and muted green, with a long geometric nose extending vertically toward a stylized black mustache. The dense curls surrounding the head are constructed from overlapping circular black strokes, creating a rhythmic pattern that contrasts with the flatter color fields of the face. A pointed beard, composed of flowing black lines, descends toward a white collar and a bright vermilion garment decorated with curved white accents. The background transitions from cool pale blue on the left to warm beige and peach on the right, emphasizing the asymmetrical treatment of the figure. The interplay of distorted anatomy, simplified shapes, and expressive linear details produces a theatrical interpretation of traditional portraiture. The upper left bears a painted inscription reading “Picasso,” accompanied by the date “6.11.68” in red. The composition evokes the visual language of twentieth-century Cubism and modernist figuration through its stylized facial structure, exaggerated proportions, and imaginative use of color and line. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
