Title: Water Lilies on a Blue Pond Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 20 x 25 inches Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition, with luminous coloration, expressive brushwork, and clearly defined botanical elements. The painted surface displays visible variations in texture and pigment application, particularly throughout the water and floating lily pads. Minor surface irregularities and age-related imperfections may be present. Presented in an ornate dark brown wooden frame with elaborate carved floral and geometric detailing, showing minor signs of surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: The work entered a private collection in 2009 through a private sale. It was lent to a group show in 2016 and sold the following year to another private collector in Asia. It has remained there since. Visual Description: A luminous aquatic landscape depicts a tranquil pond populated by numerous floating water lily pads and delicate blossoms, rendered in a harmonious palette of blue, turquoise, green, lavender, and pale yellow. The composition is organized around a broad expanse of reflective water, where rounded lily pads extend across the surface in irregular horizontal groupings. Their overlapping forms are articulated through expressive strokes of green, yellow, and blue, with subtle pink and violet accents defining their edges. Two prominent white water lilies introduce delicate focal points, one positioned near the center-left and another emerging from the lower-left foreground, both displaying warm golden-yellow centers. The surrounding water is rendered through layered passages of cobalt blue, aquamarine, turquoise, and soft violet, suggesting shifting reflections of sky and vegetation. Vertical strokes of green and yellow evoke aquatic plants and reflected foliage, while horizontal brushwork introduces gentle movement across the pond's surface. The absence of a conventional horizon creates an immersive perspective, inviting the viewer to contemplate the interaction of light, color, and water. The interplay of loosely defined botanical forms, atmospheric reflections, and luminous color transitions evokes the visual language of Impressionism, particularly its emphasis on fleeting natural effects and expressive observation. The lower right bears a painted inscription reading “Claude Monet.” This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
