An antique primitive wooden cradle butter churn, constructed with a barrel-shaped body mounted on wide curved rockers. The piece is finished in a deep historic red-toned paint. It features a tall, upright ladder-style handle attached to one side to facilitate the rocking motion. The top of the churn incorporates a removable flat wooden lid that opens to reveal the internal chamber. The curved wooden structure is reinforced with horizontal iron rods, and the flat ends are fitted with iron hardware loops and bracket fixings. The supporting A-frame legs are secured with screws. Dimensions (read from imperial tape measure, only inches shown): Total height approx. 104 cm, body height approx. 71 cm, lid opening width approx. 36 cm. Condition: The item shows wear consistent with age and historic functional use. The painted finish displays widespread scuffing, chipping, flaking, and fading, particularly on the handle, rockers, and high-contact edges. The woodwork exhibits typical drying, minor splitting, and surface abrasions. Modern Phillips-head screws are present on the A-frame leg supports, indicating later structural reinforcement. The iron hardware shows surface oxidisation and rust.
