Opera Glass Handle Faux Tortoiseshell. This elegant late 19th to early 20th-century Victorian lorgnette-style telescoping opera glass holder (handle) features a black pinstriped body, fine repoussé scrollwork silver finial, and a molded faux-tortoiseshell claw hook designed to secure a pair of theater glasses or lorgnette optics. Extending smooth metal inner shafts allow for adjustable reach during high-society theatrical performances, making this a sophisticated accessory for collectors of Victorian vanity items, theater ephemera, silver novelties, and opera glasses. Manufacturer unbranded/attributable to Victorian silver crafters, c. 1890s–1910s, silver-plated or low-grade silver alloy mounts with celluloid/faux tortoiseshell hook and composite shaft, stamped with numerical makers marks near the upper collar, measures approximately 5.5 inches closed and extends to approximately 9.5 inches fully expanded.
