Glove Buttoner Chatelaine Tool. Dating to the Victorian era (c. 1880s–1900), this exceptional sterling silver chatelaine glove buttoner measures approximately 5.5 inches in total length and features an oblong wire-loop button hook attached by a link chain to a coin-style medallion medal depicting the helmeted classical profile of Athena (Minerva). Stamped with a patent date of "PAT. OCT. 18 '98" along the loop tool arm, the 1.10-inch coin medallion is hand-engraved on its reverse with script initials ("MCE" or "MEB"), presenting a rare Grand Tour Revival utility accessory for vanity and chatelaine collectors. This unsigned piece presents in good antique condition with a rich silver patina, displaying dark tarnish in the recessed relief areas, light surface scratching, handling wear, and minor rim irregularities on the medallion, while the wire tool, link chain, and attachment rings remain structurally sound and securely connected.
