Sterling Scottish Thistle Brooch Pin. Crafted during the Mid-Century Modern era (c. 1950s–1960s) by renowned Sandwich, New Hampshire silversmith Abbott Gotshall (1906–1988), this authentic handcrafted sterling silver brooch measures approximately 1.85 inches high by 1.75 inches wide. Representing collectible American studio silver arts, the piece features an elaborate Scottish thistle motif with a central repoussé bloom framed by stylized openwork thorny leaves, engraved accents, and Gotshall's signature nature-inspired aesthetic. The brooch is stamped "STERLING" on the reverse upper rim alongside his encircled "AG" hallmark and scratched catalog number "679." Featuring an intact, fully functional long pin stem and rollover safety catch, the item presents in good vintage condition with crisp relief detailing, light tarnish highlighting the openwork crevices, and natural patina with minor surface scuffing on the reverse.
