Retractable Mechanical Pencil 5-Inch. Crafted by renowned pen makers Mabie, Todd & Co. during the Victorian era (c. 1870s–1890s), this authentic 5.25-inch mechanical pencil features a gold-filled brass body with a classic engine-turned fluted barrel and a twist-extend mechanism. Stamped "MABIE, TODD & CO." alongside a "CARP" owner or retailer imprint near the top crown cap, this piece exemplifies early American writing instrument craftsmanship and remains highly sought after by collectors. Offered in original, unrestored antique condition with an untested extension mechanism, the pencil shows age-appropriate wear including plating loss, brassing, and tarnish along the lower fluted grooves, as well as surface rubbing, micro-denting, and faint scratches on the top cap.
