Plaque Portrait Medallion 2-Inch. Attributed to 19th-century Italian or European workshops (c. 1820s–1880s), this authentic Grand Tour plaster cameo impression medallion features a high-relief profile portrait of a hooded scholar or classical figure—likely Dante Alighieri—measuring approximately 2 inches high by 1.5 inches wide. Originally collected by wealthy European travelers as educational souvenirs of famous classical sculptures and gems, this unsigned molded gesso piece displays extraordinary fine detail and a soft, natural off-white aged patina. It presents in good antique condition for unglazed plaster, exhibiting minor surface abrasions, light dust in the relief crevices, adhesive paper mounting residue on the reverse, and expected minor flea bites or chips along the border rim consistent with removal from a period collector's tray or album.
