General Store J N Shannon Real Photo. Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century (c. 1890s–1900s), this original sepia-toned gelatin silver or albumen photograph measures approximately 8.5 by 5.25 inches on its cardstock mount and captures a classic Western false-front general store in Vernon, Kansas (near Yates Center). The store facade displays a prominent arched sign reading "Money Saved by Trading Here" above a group of men and boys gathered on the wooden porch, while the reverse features extensive, fully legible handwritten ink provenance detailing that the shop was established by J.N. Shannon, whose family lived upstairs for several years. Offering remarkable appeal to regional Kansas, Americana, and paper history collectors, this unattributed photograph presents in fair to good antique condition; despite significant overall fading and light toning to the print, the figures and storefront remain visible, while the heavily worn mount board exhibits chipped corners, small paper loss, and severe tears along the bottom margin edge without obscuring the dark handwritten history on the back.
