Postcard Hugh C Leighton Naval Ephemera. This scarce early 20th-century undivided/divided back era color postcard features a dramatic photographic view titled "Bow of a U. S. Submarine," showing US Navy sailors posed atop and emerging from the open torpedo tube hatch on the bow of an early Plunger-class or C-class submarine. Published by the renowned Hugh C. Leighton Co. of Portland, Maine, and printed in Germany, cards depicting early 20th-century US Navy sub technology and candid crew life carry immense appeal for military historians, naval ephemera collectors, and antique postcard enthusiasts. Published by The Hugh C. Leighton Co. (Portland, ME, USA), dated c. 1907–1910, color lithograph/collotype print on cardstock, marked with series No. 20255 and "Made in Germany" in the stamp box, captioned in red along the upper front margin, measures standard postcard size approximately 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Displays expected signs of age including faint paper toning on the unmailed reverse, light corner softening, subtle edge rubbing, and a pencil dealer inventory mark on the back, though the color image field remains bright, sharp, and highly displayable; no major tears, heavy creases, or pinholes observed. See photos for close-up details.
