AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Vintage privately tailored U.S. Army wool service jacket by Pettibone Bros. Mfg. Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio, retaining the original maker and tailor labels. The left shoulder carries the classic 82nd Airborne Division insignia with separate blue AIRBORNE tab above the red square patch with blue circular field and white AA monogram. The brown wool jacket features a tailored military cut with notched lapels, pleated flap breast pockets, lower hand pockets, button cuffs and adjustable waist tabs. Pettibone Bros. was a long-established Cincinnati uniform and military-goods manufacturer known for supplying military and institutional uniforms. An interior breast-pocket label is marked PETTIBONE, includes an order number, and bears the handwritten name of the soldier for whom the jacket was tailored or issued. A separate small interior tag also carries three handwritten initials associated with the same soldier. The soldier’s name will not be published in the catalog but will be provided to the successful buyer upon request. No conventional numerical size tag has been located. This is consistent with privately tailored Pettibone uniforms, which could carry individualized order and customer information rather than a simple commercial size designation. The jacket is unmistakably small in overall proportions, with a narrow, slender cut, but no numerical size will be assigned without a surviving measurement specification. The jacket dates to the WWII through Korean War period, circa 1940s to early 1950s, based on the style, tailoring and 82nd Airborne insignia. In addition to collector interest as period militaria, the jacket is also suitable for historical reenactment, educational display and theatre or film costuming. CONDITION REPORT > Seemingly a well preserved example ~ Perhaps typical and minor elements relative to age, use and materials.
