AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Vintage carved monkeypod wood serving bowl formed in the manner of a broad stylized leaf, measuring 17.5" long x 9.25" wide x 1.75" deep and weighing 3/4 lb. The shallow bowl is carved with a gently pointed leaf-form body, raised rim and short stem-like handle, with warm reddish-brown coloration and pronounced natural wood grain throughout. The broad open interior makes it suitable for fruit, snacks, serving, centerpiece use or decorative display. Underside follows the same sculptural leaf contour and carries script lettering reading MONKEYPOD WOOD - PHILLIPINES. The exact leaf species is not identified, so the form is best described simply as a stylized leaf. Monkeypod wood was widely used in Philippine decorative and serving ware during the mid- to later-20th century because of the wood’s rich color, attractive grain and suitability for carving. Pieces of this type were commonly produced for export and remain closely associated with vintage tropical, tiki and mid-century tableware. CONDITION REPORT > Scratches to the underside, as shown.
