AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Hardcover botanical reference Wildflowers of Louisiana and Adjoining States by Clair A. Brown, longtime LSU botanist and the first official director of the LSU Herbarium. Originally published by Louisiana State University Press in 1972, the volume contains 247 pages and became one of the standard regional references for identifying wildflowers across Louisiana and neighboring Gulf South states. The book is extensively illustrated with color photographs arranged alongside concise botanical descriptions identifying common and scientific names, plant families, growth habits, flower characteristics, blooming periods and geographic distribution. Coverage includes species found throughout Louisiana as well as adjoining areas of Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi, making the book especially useful for Gulf South gardeners, naturalists and plant enthusiasts. Clair A. Brown was an important figure in Louisiana botany and served as director of the LSU Herbarium from 1926 to 1970. LSU specifically identifies this book as one of his popular field guides and notes the role his botanical work played in establishing the herbarium as a major center for plant study and systematics. The examples shown include early buttercup, spiny buttercup, blue larkspur, may-apple or mandrake, hedge-hyssop, flame flower, empress tree, lousewort and many other native and naturalized species, each illustrated and described for practical identification. Bound in blue and olive-green cloth with silver lettering to the front and spine, providing a durable field-reference format. A useful and increasingly regional-interest volume for collectors of Louisiana natural history, Southern botany, native plants, wildflowers and LSU Press publications. CONDITION REPORT > A seemingly well preserved example ~ Perhaps typical and minor elements relative to age, handling and materials.
