AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Vintage Peterson’s Peacock pocket hand warmer dating to the post-World War II American occupation of Japan, circa 1947–1952. The compact metal warmer features the distinctive pierced peacock motif across the face, with decorative ventilation openings incorporated into the design. Peterson’s Peacock hand warmers were reusable fuel-burning personal warmers marketed for cold-weather use, including hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. Designed to be carried in a pocket or protective pouch, the Peacock series is readily recognized by the elaborate pierced peacock design appearing across the metal case. The underside is stamped MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN. Following World War II, Japan remained under Allied occupation until 1952, with civilian export trade resuming during the late 1940s. Goods produced for export during this relatively brief period were commonly marked OCCUPIED JAPAN or MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN, creating a closely defined collecting category that today encompasses ceramics, toys, metalwares, household goods and other Japanese exports produced during the occupation era. The combination of the Peterson’s Peacock design and the period MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN marking places this example within a particularly identifiable chapter of postwar Japanese export history. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered, offered with no presumption of functionality.
