Antique Oak Cabinet with Green Textured Glass. Dimensions: 18.25 inches high × 11.5 inches wide × 8 inches deep. An attractive late Victorian to Edwardian oak cabinet, circa 1890–1910, of narrow upright form with a single paneled door inset with richly textured deep green glass. The cabinet features decorative carved and applied details including a dentil-like molded cornice, geometric frieze, beaded borders, and bold spiral-rope molding above the lower drawer. Fitted with dark iron or steel strap-form pulls and period-style butt hinges. The interior contains a single shelf with additional storage below, while the lower portion incorporates a useful pull-out drawer. The compact proportions and decorative glass give the piece considerable architectural character. Its original purpose is uncertain; it may have served as a small medicine, apothecary, smoking/tobacco, or general utility cabinet. I would avoid assigning a specific function without further evidence. The construction, hardware, oak casework, simple interior, and overall decorative treatment are consistent with the turn of the 20th century. The green figured glass is particularly appealing and substantially enhances the cabinet's decorative quality. Condition: Good antique condition with expected age-related wear, scratches, staining, finish variation and oxidation to the metal hardware. Interior exhibits staining and use wear. Green glass appears intact in the photographs. Auction house considers photographs to be part of the condition report.
