Rex Kare (American, Contemporary) – Reclining Female Nude, Oil on Canvas. Artwork Dimensions: 18 × 20 inches. Framed Dimensions: 26 × 28 inches. An accomplished figurative oil painting by Rex Kare, depicting a reclining female nude viewed from behind, her figure modeled with restrained, naturalistic tones against a subdued atmospheric interior. Kare employs expressive, visible brushwork throughout, with the warm flesh tones of the figure contrasting beautifully against passages of blue, gray, olive, and charcoal drapery. The understated palette and loosely resolved surroundings keep the emphasis on the graceful contours, light, and anatomy of the figure. The work bears Kare's distinctive RK monogram with the numeral 2 at the lower right. It is presented in an attractive substantial black and antiqued-gold molded frame. A Rex Kare Studio Fine Art label from Houston, Texas, is affixed to the reverse. Rex Kare is an American figurative artist and educator who earned a B.A. in Studio Art/Painting from the University of Dallas in 1994 and an M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art, Graduate School of Figurative Art, in 1996. His practice encompasses painting, drawing, sculpture, and stained glass, and his works are represented in public and private collections in the United States and abroad. He is currently Professor of Art at Collin College, where he teaches painting, drawing, and figure drawing. Kare has also received significant public commissions. The City of Dallas selected him for two site-specific works for the Lochwood Library, and his more recent commissions include stained glass, bronze, and large-scale ecclesiastical works throughout Texas. His work continues to be exhibited; the New York Academy of Art included one of his paintings in its 2026 Summer Exhibition. This is an especially appealing example for collectors of contemporary American figurative painting and academic realism, combining traditional life-drawing discipline with a painterly, modern sensibility. Condition: Appears to be in generally good overall condition with age-appropriate surface characteristics. Frame exhibits scattered scratches, scuffs, and minor wear. Please review all photographs carefully. The auction house considers the photographs to be the condition report. Expect to pay $2,500 and up in a gallery. From the estate of a collector near Atlanta.
