Antique Classical Mythological Embossed Metal Wall Plaque. Dimensions: 11.5 inches diameter. Age: Late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1880–1910. Decorative antique embossed metal wall plaque featuring a finely modeled Classical mythological scene in high relief. The central medallion depicts a helmeted warrior, likely representing Athena or a heroic figure from Greco-Roman mythology, surrounded by attendants, cherubic figures, and symbolic motifs beneath a tree. The outer border is richly ornamented with a continuous relief of reclining putti and foliate elements, framed by a beaded edge. The plaque appears to be cast spelter or white metal with a contrasting gilt-toned inner ring, creating a striking visual effect. The reverse retains its original hanging loop. Pieces of this type were popular decorative wall ornaments during the late Victorian and Art Nouveau periods, reflecting the era's fascination with Classical antiquity. Condition: Overall good antique condition. Surface oxidation, darkened patina, scattered wear, rubbing to the gilt-toned border, minor casting imperfections, and age-related surface accretions throughout. No major losses or apparent structural damage observed. This auction house considers the photographs to be the condition report. Provenance: From the estate of a distinguished Georgia physician, whose collection of fine art, antiques, jewelry, and decorative objects was carefully assembled over a period of decades.
