E. de Labroue Paris Napoleon III Style Cobalt Blue Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Urn-Form Mantel Clock. Dimensions: 15 H x 6 W x 5 D inches. Age: French, circa 1865–1885. Elegant French Napoleon III style mantel clock in the form of a classical urn, featuring a deep cobalt blue porcelain body mounted with finely cast gilt bronze mounts. The architectural design is adorned with scrolling acanthus-form handles, foliate garlands, a fluted pedestal base, and an elaborately modeled finial. The white enamel dial bears blue Roman numerals and is signed E. de Labroue, Fondeur de Bronzes, A Paris. The movement is additionally stamped L. de Labroue, Fondeur de Bronzes, Paris and numbered 273, further supporting attribution to the Parisian bronze founder and decorative arts maker active during the latter half of the nineteenth century. The clock retains its bell-strike movement and winding key. The richly colored porcelain body contrasts beautifully with the gilt bronze mounts, reflecting the luxurious decorative taste associated with the Second Empire and early Third Republic periods in France. This sophisticated urn-form model exemplifies the revivalist classical designs favored during the Napoleon III era and would display well in both traditional and eclectic interiors. Condition: Overall good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Gilt bronze surfaces exhibit expected oxidation, rubbing, and minor discoloration. Porcelain body displays scattered surface scratches and wear consistent with age. Visible restorations and fill repairs are present around the bezel mounting points, as shown in photographs. Minor hairlines and small imperfections to the enamel dial. Movement appears complete but has not been tested for long-term accuracy or operation. Key present.
