Brunson Surveyors Level with Dietzgen Tripod

A Brunson surveyor's level, serial 638924, marked with patent numbers 2208014 and 2329978 and engraved LAWHON on the telescope barrel. It comes in its original dovetailed wood case with the Brunson oval branded into the lid, a leather carry strap, a steel handle and EYE END stenciled inside. A Brunson Instrument Company service sticker dated 3-8-74 is inside the case. The lot also includes a wooden tripod with leather straps and steel shoe points, the head stamped DIETZGEN 3-1/2 INCH 8 THREADS MADE IN U.S.A., and one black lens cap. A level like this is the tool a builder uses to set foundation forms, run drain fall and shoot grade across a lot, and it still does that job with nothing but a rod and a helper. Condition is good for age. The instrument has scattered paint loss and tarnish, the case shows shelf wear and the tripod legs are scuffed. Optics and accuracy have not been checked. Authenticity and function have not been verified by Crawford Auction Service. Estimated Value: $100 to $175 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is.
