Keuffel and Esser Surveyor Transit and Tripod

An antique Keuffel and Esser Co. surveyor's transit, serial 109463, in its fitted wood carrying case with brass corners, a hinged door and a leather shoulder strap. The instrument has the black japanned finish with polished brass fittings, a telescope with a sunshade, a vertical arc, and the K and E compass dial under glass in the base. Four leveling screws sit on the triangular base plate. The lot also includes a red and white painted tripod with steel shoe points, two brass plumb bobs in orange leather sheaths, one of them fitted with a red and white target plate, a leather accessory pouch mounted inside the case door, and a small oil bottle. A service sticker from Griner and Schmitz of Kansas City is on the case door. Condition is good for age, with tarnish on the brass, paint loss on the case corners and dry leather. Optics and accuracy have not been checked. Authenticity and function have not been verified by Crawford Auction Service. Estimated Value: $150 to $250 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is.
