Group of four early glass bottles comprising a pale aqua embossed Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin bottle marked for the Pepsin Syrup Company of Monticello, Illinois; a clear rectangular stoppered bottle with beveled shoulders and an etched script inscription to the front; a small clear stoppered perfume or scent bottle retaining its original paper label reading “Concentrated Extract New Mown Hay for the Handkerchief,” Thomas & Chapman, London; and a larger clear stoppered Ayer’s Hair Vigor bottle retaining a highly decorative chromolithographed paper label depicting mermaids, a sailing vessel, and tropical scenery, prepared by Dr. J.C. Ayer & Co., Lowell, Massachusetts. Together the group offers a strong mix of early medicinal, toiletry, and perfumery advertising glass, with the surviving labels adding particular visual and collectible appeal. All pieces show age-related scuffs, scratches, cloudiness, residue, and general surface wear, while the paper labels exhibit toning, staining, edge wear, and minor losses consistent with age and handling. Measures 4" H, 7" H, 7" H & 7.25" H.
