An exceptionally appealing four-piece Royal Doulton collection uniting three of the celebrated English manufactory's classic lady figurines with a particularly desirable Canadian-market Special Edition character jug, representing several of the most recognizable strands of Royal Doulton's 20th-century figurative tradition. The group is led by Yachtsman D6820, modeled by Stanley James Taylor and distinguished by its sculptural yacht-form handle, naval-style cap and highly specific commemorative factory backstamp identifying it as a Special Edition of only 750 produced in connection with the First Canadian Doulton Show, Durham, Ontario, July 1988. This limited Canadian association elevates the piece beyond the standard character-jug category and gives it particular relevance to collectors of Royal Doulton Canadian editions, nautical ceramics and event-specific Doulton commemoratives. Accompanying it are three elegant Royal Doulton ladies: Autumn Breezes HN1934, the much-admired Leslie Harradine model portraying a fashionable young woman in a sweeping green skirt, cobalt-blue bodice and broad bonnet, carrying a muff; Vivienne HN2073, also designed by Harradine, an especially striking mid-century figure modeled in a richly glazed scarlet-red off-the-shoulder gown with tiered skirt and period hat; and My Love HN2339, designed by Margaret "Peggy" Davies, an exceptionally graceful seated figure in an expansive ivory gown embellished with delicate gilt floral ornament, her outstretched hand holding a single pink rose. Together, the four works demonstrate the qualities for which vintage Royal Doulton remains internationally collected: expressive modeling, sophisticated costume design, hand-applied decoration, brilliant glaze color, unmistakable character and the extensive HN and D-number system that has made the firm's historical production so rewarding to specialist collectors. Factory marks, model titles and identifying numbers are present to the undersides, with the Yachtsman retaining the particularly important Canadian Doulton Show inscription and edition statement. The contrast between the theatrical elegance of Harradine and Davies's female figures and the characterful nautical portraiture of Stanley James Taylor creates a visually varied and highly displayable grouping with appeal across several established collecting categories, including Royal Doulton figurines, Royal Doulton ladies, Leslie Harradine, Peggy Davies, Stanley James Taylor, HN series figures, Doulton character jugs, English ceramics, nautical collectibles and Canadian Royal Doulton commemoratives. All four pieces present attractively with strong glaze and color and no obvious major chips, cracks or restorations visible.
